Daytrip to Mojácar: A Photogenic White Village in Almería, Spain
Mojácar is one of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia, located in the province of Almería in southern Spain. Perched on a hilltop overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, this charming village is known for its whitewashed houses, narrow streets, colourful flower pots, and stunning views.
I instantly fell in love with Mojácar’s authentic atmosphere and picturesque streets. In this article, I’ll share the best things to do in Mojácar and why this beautiful village deserves a spot on your Andalusia itinerary.

How to get there?
Since Mojácar is located in a relatively remote part of Andalusia, the easiest way to visit is by car. The village is located about 3 hours from Málaga and 2.5 hours from Granada, making it a perfect stop on an Andalusia road trip. Although Mojácar is often overlooked by travellers exploring Andalusia, it’s a true hidden gem and well worth a visit!
The historic centre of Mojácar Pueblo is largely pedestrianised, so you won’t be able to drive through most of the narrow streets. I recommend parking your car at the edge of the village and exploring on foot. From the parking area, you can take the free elevator (Elevator to Mojácar Pueblo), which conveniently brings you up to the heart of the old town.

What to do in Mojacar?
Although Mojácar is relatively small, it’s worth spending at least a few hours wandering through its charming streets. The village is incredibly photogenic, with whitewashed houses, colourful flower pots and hidden alleyways.
Spend some time wandering through Mojácar’s narrow streets. Around every corner you’ll discover hidden spots, colourful flower pots, and authentic Andalusian charm. Along the way, you’ll pass cosy cafés, local restaurants, artisan shops, and beautiful viewpoints overlooking the mountains and surrounding landscape.

Best viewpoint in Mojácar: Plaza Nueva
One of the most beautiful spots in Mojácar is Plaza Nueva. This lively square offers breathtaking panoramic views over the valley and surrounding countryside. It’s the perfect place to sit down with a drink, enjoy a traditional Spanish lunch, and watch daily life unfold. Plaza Nueva is especially popular around sunset when the warm golden light creates a magical atmosphere. It’s one of the best photography spots in Mojácar and a favourite gathering place for both locals and visitors.

Plaza del Parterre
Another must-visit location in Mojácar is Plaza del Parterre, one of the village’s most picturesque squares. Located next to the Iglesia de Santa María, this historic square was once part of an ancient Moorish necropolis, where the tombs were traditionally oriented towards Mecca. Today, Plaza del Parterre is known for its elegant columns, colourful flower pots, and peaceful atmosphere. It’s one of the most photogenic corners of Mojácar and a wonderful place to admire the village’s rich history and architecture.

Magical holidays in mojacar
If you’re visiting Andalusia during the festive season, Mojácar becomes even more magical. Every year, Mojácar lights up with thousands of Christmas lights, creating a magical fairytale atmosphere throughout the old town. Ferrero Rocher sponsors many of the festive decorations, making the village even more enchanting during the holiday season. ✨
The festive decorations, which have gained international attention in recent years, attract visitors from all over Spain. During this period you’ll also find a small Christmas market, seasonal treats, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the cosy holiday atmosphere while wandering through the illuminated streets.

Why visit Mojacar?
I completely fell in love with Mojácar during my first visit. The combination of whitewashed houses, colourful flowers, winding streets, and spectacular views makes it one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia. Since my parents live just an hour away I have been lucky enough to already visit there twice and can’t wait to come back already!
Mojácar reminds me a lot of Oia on Santorini, Greece. While it may not be as famous, it offers a similar vibe and beauty without the overwhelming crowds. Whether you’re exploring Andalusia by car, looking for hidden gems in southern Spain, Mojácar definitely deserves a place on your itinerary!
