Júzcar, blue mountain village in Southern Spain

Hidden in the mountains behind Málaga, Júzcar is a unique blue village in Andalusia, also known as the Smurf Village. If you’re visiting this region of Spain, this one-of-a-kind destination should be on your list!

Why is Júzcar blue?

Originally a traditional white Andalusian village, Júzcar was painted entirely blue in 2011 as a marketing stunt for the premiere of The Smurfs movie. The transformation attracted so many visitors that the town decided to keep its iconic blue color. While most Smurf-themed decorations have been removed due to copyright claims, you can still spot a few, including a giant Smurf at a children’s playground. With its striking blue streets and unique history, Júzcar offers a fun and photogenic stop on your Andalusian adventure!

How to Get There

As the village is quite remote, I recommend driving here, preferably by (rental) car. It’s a scenic 30-minute drive from Ronda and about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Málaga.

Where to park in Júzcar?

Upon arrival, a traffic controller directed us to a nearby street where we were able to park for free along the roadside. This parking spot is also indicated on google maps.

What to do in Júzcar?

Take your time to explore the village on foot and snap some photos – there are also several murals scattered around to discover. It’s a small town, so you won’t need more than 1-2 hours to fully enjoy it. For thrill-seekers, there’s also a zip-line offering an adrenaline-seeking ride over the village! Afterwards, unwind with a traditional Spanish siesta by enjoying some refreshing drinks or delicious tapas.

Why Visit Júzcar?

Júzcar, Spain’s Blue Smurf Village, is a unique and photogenic destination. With vibrant blue streets, stunning mountain views, and hidden Smurf figures, it’s a must-visit near Málaga!
